In Ontario, a psychologist is a regulated health professional, with advanced training in assessing, diagnosing, and treating people with mental health struggles. They use evidence-based approaches and work collaboratively with clients to develop coping strategies, develop skills, build resilience, and make meaningful changes that improve daily functioning and quality of life.

Ontario psychologists are registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) which serves as their provincial regulatory body, and they adhere to strict standards of practice, ethics, and confidentiality.

Dr. Neil Gottheil, C.Psych. is an independently licensed Clinical Psychologist through the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), and is the Clinical Director for Turning Corners Psychological Services (TCPS). TCPS Website

Dr. Gottheil has been in practice for over 26 years and provides therapy for adults, children, youth, parents, and families. Dr. Gottheil has an eclectic therapeutic approach with an emphasis on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems, as well as training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness based approaches, Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), and BrainSpotting.

Dr. Gottheil works with clients struggling with mood (i.e., depression, bipolar illness) and anxiety disorders, adoption/ attachment related concerns, peer relational issues including bullying, parent-child difficulties, skills development (general coping, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness), parenting skills, anger and behavioural issues, adult relationship issues, psychosis, and suicidality.

Dr. Gottheil has a particular interest in the area of Bully and Victim issues, has provided various community and professional lectures and workshops on the topic, and has appeared on television to discuss bullying, its impact, and what can be done about it.

Dr. Gottheil developed a parenting video for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) entitled, “Competing with Technology: Understanding the Problem.” Video Link

Dr. Gottheil received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, his Master`s degree in Developmental Psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from McGill University in Montreal.

In October 2025, Dr. Gottheil retired from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where he worked since 1998. During that time he was the staff psychologist on the Inpatient Service, the Outpatient Mental Health Service, and was also the Clinical Lead for Outpatient Mental Health. Throughout this time he maintained his group private practice, TCPS, and since October 2025 has substantially increased his availability at the practice.
